Witness to the Ascension of Christ

Journey through the Bible: The Ascension of Jesus

Being a witness of Jesus

Scripture Reading: Luke 24:50-53 "And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God." #1136

Introduction: Our Journey through the Bible has led us through the gospels about Jesus. We have seen His birth, baptism, teaching, death, burial and resurrection. We now start looking at the impact of His resurrection and the service we are to perform for the kingdom.

Proposition: We are called to witness to others the ascension of Jesus Christ.

T.S.: Today we see purpose of the book of the Acts of the Apostles.

I. We are to follow the risen Savior. Acts 1:1-5 #1166

-We see many proofs given to us to have faith in Jesus. V. 1-3

-We are to follow His commands to receive His promises. V. 4-5

-This promise comes to all of us through baptism. Acts 2:38 #1168

II. Our risen Savior has given us a mission to follow. Acts 1:6-12 #1166

-Question given to Jesus, but it is the wrong question. V. 6-7

-The kingdom is not restored to Israel alone, but all mankind. Romans 11:11-25 #1214

-Times and seasons are fixed by the Father, we have a mission.

-The word of God is to be witnessed first in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and the ends of the earth. We are part of this witnessing to the ends of the earth.

-Jesus ascends to heaven and they are told this is how he will return.

-This breaks some of the recent popular ideas about His return.

Let us follow our risen Savior Jesus and continue the mission to spread the word to the world.
