Journey through the Bible: Who is the Greatest in God's Kingdom?

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-7 "Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." #1298

Introduction: Last time we looked at the transfiguration and Jesus as the Son of God. Matthew 17 #1055, Mk. 9:2-13 #1084 Today we ask the question Who is the Greatest in God's Kingdom? Matthew 18 #1056

Proposition: We must humble ourselves and forgive others if we wish to be great in God's kingdom.

T.S.: We are called to be as innocent as little children and forgive one another.

I. We are called to humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord.

-Matthew 18:1-14 #1056

-We must not become arrogant because we are in the kingdom.

-We must become innocent as little children in order to be great.

-We must not cause others to stumble. Romans 14:1-8; 15:1-7#1216/17

-We must purge everything that causes us to sin.

-We are to rejoice when someone returns to the fold.

II. We are to forgive a brother that repents.

-Matthew 18:15-35 #1056

-Christ gives us an outline of how we are to deal with one who sins.

-Progression for one who does not repent.

-One on one, small group, whole church.

-Consequences for those who do not repent.

-Consequences for those who do repent.

-Forgive up to seventy times seven. Continually forgive for we have been forgiven.

Let us become great in God's kingdom by humbling ourselves and forgiving others.
