Journey through the Bible: Give your heart to God

Scripture Reading: Mark 7:6-8 "He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." You have let go of the commands of god and are holding on to the traditions of men." #1081

Introduction: Last time we saw the answer to where John the baptizer comes from and the authority of Jesus. Matthew 21:28-22:15, Mark 12:1-12 #1088, Luke 20:9-16 #1128 Today we see the Pharisees and Sadducees putting Jesus to the test with some questions they thought could not be answered without impunity. Matthew 22:15-46

Proposition: We are called to give our heart to God.

T.S.: We see some "we got you questions" from the teachers of the law.

I. We are called to give to God what is truly His.

-Matthew 22:15-22 #1062

-We got you question: Should we pay taxes?

-Answer: Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.

-They marveled at his answer.

II. We are called to look forward to the resurrection.

-Matthew 22:23-33 #1062

-We got you question: Who is your spouse at the resurrection?

-Answer: We will be like the angels and God is the God of the living! 1 Cor. 13:12 #1230

III. We are called to Love God and honor His son.

-Matthew 22:34-46 #1062

-We got you question: What is the greatest commandment in the Law?

-Answer: Love with all your heart God and Love your neighbor. 1 Cor. 13:4-7 #1230

-Jesus replies with his own got you question: Whose son is the Christ?

Let us give our heart to God and serve him in love and humility.
