Journey through the Bible: The Starting Point

Scripture Reading: Acts 17:22-23 "So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus said: "Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: 'to the unknown god.' What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you." #1189

Introduction: Our Journey through the Bible has led us through the gospels about Jesus. We have seen His birth, baptism, teaching, death, burial and resurrection. We now start looking at the impact of His resurrection and the service we are to perform for the kingdom. We looked at the establishment of the church through the preaching about Jesus Christ confirmed by the Holy Spirit. Now we see the church spreading through the proclamation of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Proposition: We are to share the gospel of Jesus wherever a person is at in life.

T.S.: Today we see Philip preach the gospel of Jesus starting from the prophet Isaiah.

I. We ought to listen to that still small voice that calls us to act. Acts 8:26-29 #117

-Philip receives a clear message from the Lord to go and meet the Ethiopian eunuch.

-This man was already interested in the word of God, he was reading Isaiah.

-How often do we see people interested in the word of God? Do we act?

II. We are to find the starting point of a persons' faith and lead them from there. Acts 8:30-35 #1176

-A simple question: Do you understand what you are reading?

-A truthful response: How can I unless someone guides me?

-Let us be a guide for others to believe in the truth about Jesus Christ.

-Let us begin from where they are at in their faith and bring them to Jesus.

III. We are to bring others to Jesus and a new life through baptism. Acts 8:36-40 #1176

-Question, did Philip preach Christ or did he preach about baptism?

-We see here that they are one and the same.

-To enter into Christ we must be baptized. Romans 6:1-4

-When we are baptized we can rejoice much.

-We are to continue telling the good news to others.

Let us tell others the good news about Jesus and start where they are to lead them to salvation.
