The Sermon on the Mount Part 3

Journey Through The Bible: The Sermon on the Mount part 3

Scripture Reading: Romans 2:1-3 "Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things Do you suppose, O many-you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself-that you will escape the judgment of God?." #1205

Introduction: Today we finish our third message on The Sermon on the Mount. Mathew 7 #1041

As we have been looking at this great sermon we have seen Jesus turn what the world sees as curses into blessings. He has shown us that He is the fulfillment of the Law and gave us the true meaning behind the Law, a changed heart and attitude. We are to give as we have been prospered and go to God in prayer about everything in life so we will not be anxious about anything. Today we conclude this wonderful sermon by looking at our attitude towards others and how others see us and of course that we build our faith on the one and only Lord Jesus, the rock!

Proposition: We are to give our lives totally over to Jesus.

T.S.: We do this by working on our own sins and becoming like Him.

I. We are to overcome the sin in our life by relying on the blood of Jesus.

-Matthew 7:1-14 #1041

-This starts with us not comparing ourselves with others and not judging. V. 1-5

-Just since we do not share a particular sin, does not mean we are innocent. (1 Cor. 11:30-32) #1229

-The Log and the Speck. V. 4-5

-So, instead of judging we ought to pray for forgiveness. V. 6-11

-We ought to treat others as we would like to be treated. V. 12

-It is only through the blood of Christ that we can enter the narrow gate. V. 12-14

II. We are to rely on the true word of God and stand on the rock of Jesus.

- Matthew 7:15-29 #1042

-When we rely on God we can rightly divide the word. V. 15-20

-Then we can truly distinguish truth. V. 15-20

-Just being busy does not mean we have given our heart to God. V. 21-23

-We can only stand on the rock of Jesus. V. 24-27

-The word of Christ has all authority. V. 28-29

Let us give ourselves over to the Lord, for He is true Judge. (James 4:10-12) #1293
