Journey Through The Bible: The Incarnate Word

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 8:3 "And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." #194

Introduction: Last week we looked at the foretelling and birth of Jesus Christ. Luke 1:26-56, 2 #1098, Matthew 1:18-2 #1035 Today we will see the Incarnate Word. John 1:1-18 #1137 Next week, we will look at John the Baptizer prepares the way. Matt. 3 #1037, Mark 1:1-11 #1073, Luke 3 #1101, John 1:19-34 #1138

As we look at Incarnate Word of God we see the creator, the light of the world, and the humility of the flesh that gives grace to all.

Proposition: We are called to follow the word, the light of life.

T.S.: The creator of all things was willing to become the creation to save everyone.

I. We are called to follow the great creator of all things.

-John 1:1-4 #1137

-Jesus is the word and He was with God in the beginning. V. 1-2

-All things were made through Him. V. 3 (Genesis 1:26-27 #2)

-In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. V. 4 (Genesis 2:7 #2)

II. We are to follow the light out of the darkness.

-John 1:5-13 #1137

-The darkness will never overtake the light! V. 5-9

-He came to save, but many did not believe. V. 10-11

-Those who believe become children of God by the will of God. V. 12-13

III. We shall be in awe that the creator of all things was humble enough to show himself to us.

-John 1:14-18 #1137

-True humility is seen in Jesus' willingness to become flesh. V. 14 (Phil. 2:1-11 #1257)

-We receive grace and truth through Jesus who makes God known. V. 15-18

Let us humbly follow the God of all creation who took us out of the darkness and redeemed us!
