Journey Through The Bible: The foretelling and birth of Jesus

Scripture Reading: Micah 5:2 "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days." #1001

Introduction: Last week we looked at the foretelling and birth of John the Baptist. Luke 1:1-25, 39-45, 57-80 #1097-1098. Today we will see the foretelling and birth of Jesus Christ. Luke 1:26-56, 2 #1098, Matthew 1:18-2 #1035. Next week, we will look at the Incarnate Word. John 1:1-18 #1137

As we look at the foretelling of Jesus we see many Old Testament scriptures fulfilled. We once again see a different focus between the gospel of Matthew and Luke. Matthew focuses on Jesus birth through his father Joseph, and Luke focuses on his birth through his mother Mary.

Proposition: We are called to follow the word of the Lord.

T.S.: The Lord sent His angel to let Mary know the good news, and to encourage Joseph.

Let us always follow the word of the Lord, His wonderful promises and his caring warnings.
