Journey through the Bible: The Authority from Heaven

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:19-20 "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone." #1252

Introduction: Last time we looked at Jesus entering into Jerusalem and his authority. Matthew 21 #1060 Today we see the answer to where John the baptizer comes from and the authority of Jesus. Matthew 21:28-22:15, Mark 12:1-12 #1088, Luke 20:9-16 #1128

Proposition: We are called to follow the authority from above.

T.S.: We see Jesus answering the question about where John the Baptist comes from.

I. We are to follow the calling of our Lord.

-Matthew 21:28-32. #1060

-Parable of Two Sons: one agrees to work and doesn't, one says no yet does work.

-Question, who did what the Father asked?

-Those who listened were blessed with righteousness. Romans 10:17 #1213

-We are to follow the way to righteousness.

II. We are called to follow the Son.

-Matthew 21:33-46. #1061 Mark 12:1-12 #1088 Luke 20:9-16 #1128

-Parable of the Tenants: those who do not receive the inheritance bully others.

-Prophets, servants, and Jesus were all bullied by the "leaders of faith."

-The harvest is for those who stand on the cornerstone of Jesus.

III. We must take heed and enter into the kingdom of heaven.

-Matthew 22:1-15. #1061

-Parable of the Wedding Banquet: those invited rejected so others were found.

-But we must be in the proper attire to enter into the kingdom. Revelation 19:6-10 #1326

Let us follow the authority of Jesus and enter into the kingdom of heaven.
