Scripture Reading: Luke 4:18-21 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." #1103
Introduction: Jesus has entered into Jerusalem with great fanfare and cleansed the Temple. The Pharisees and Sadducees put Jesus to the test with some questions they thought could not be answered without impunity. Jesus has taught about judgement upon those who worship in false religion and He predicted the destruction of the Temple and his return. Matthew 24 #1064, Luke 21 #1130 Last week we looked at being steadfast in our faith till the final judgement. Matthew 25 #1065 Today we look at the Lord's anointed one Jesus. Matthew 26 #1067
Proposition: We are called to remember the Lord's anointed one Jesus.
T.S.: We see Jesus being betrayed, anointed and remembered.
I. We must not let our hearts be hardened and betray our Lord.
-Matthew 26:1-5, 14-16. #1067
-Instead of rejoicing that the messiah was here, the religious leaders plot to kill him.
-We see the heart of Judas turning towards greed instead of purity.
II. We are to remember the humble anointing of Jesus by the woman at Simon's house.
-Matthew 26:6-13. #1067
-The woman with the alabaster jar of perfume that was very expensive.
-She did something beautiful and the disciples started to rebuke her for it.
III. We are to remember our Lord and His sacrifice for our forgiveness of sins.
-Matthew 26:17-30. #1067
-The preparation for this last supper is made.
-Jesus announces His betrayal.
-Jesus gives us his body and blood for the forgiveness of sins.
-Aspects of the remembrance. Teaching, Confession, Prayer, Communion, Singing.
Let us remember the Lord's anointed and serve Him.
