So That You May Believe

Journey through the Bible: So That You May Believe

Scripture Reading: John 20:30-31, 21:25 "Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." "Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written." #1164

Introduction: We have recently seen the trial and crucifixion of Jesus. Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 18-19, We then looked at the good news, that Jesus is not here, HE IS RISEN! We now start looking at the impact of His resurrection and the service we are to perform for the kingdom.

Proposition: We are given the word of God so that we may believe and do His will.

T.S.: Today we see a great fishing story and the apostles sent to do good works.

I. We are given the Word of God so that we may believe in Jesus. John 20:30-31, 21:25

-The words we have are what we need for life and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3-4 #1300

-We are blessed with the highlights of Jesus' life and resurrection so we will believe.

-Volumes of books could be written on Jesus and have been written on Him.

II. We see the disciples reminded about the power of Jesus. John 21:1-14 #1164

-The disciples go back to what they know and what they excel at, fishing!

-However they have caught no fish. Remember Simon's first encounter. Luke 5:1-11 #1104

-Jesus needs to remind them and us to become fishers of men.

III. We are called to love God and serve one another. John 21:15-24 #1165

-Definition of Love: Agape, Phileo, Eros, Storge. 1 Corinthians 13 #1230

-Jesus asks do you Agape me? Peter says yes I Phileo you!

-How often does God ask us for everything and we give Him a portion?

-Finally Jesus asks about the portion, do you Phileo me? This hurts Peter's feelings.

-Admonitions given: Feed my lambs, Tend my sheep, Feed my sheep. 15-17

-We are no longer our own, we belong to Jesus and must follow Him. 18-19

-Let us not look to others and there service, let us follow Him the way He has called us. 20-24

Let us believe in the word of God and His son Jesus Christ and follow Him in service.
