Journey through the Bible: Pursuing our Faith

Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:1-3 "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome." #1306

Introduction: We have recently seen the trial and crucifixion of Jesus. Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 18-19 We then looked at the good news, that Jesus is not here, HE IS RISEN! We saw the purpose of the writing of the gospels, so that we may believe. We now start looking at the impact of His resurrection and the service we are to perform for the kingdom.

Proposition: We are called to pursue our faith and share it with the world.

T.S.: Today we see Jesus give the disciples the great commission.

I. We are to worship our resurrected Lord Jesus in belief and not doubt.

-We must not doubt or have hardness of heart. Matthew 28:16-17 #1072, Mark21:25 #1096

-Sometimes doubts arise in our hearts. Luke 24:36-43 #1136

-We see Jesus here, the first fruits of the resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:42-49 #1233, 1 Pet. 1:3-6

II. We must have faith that Jesus is the fulfillment of all scripture. Luke 24:44-47 #1136

-Everything written in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and Psalms are fulfilled in Jesus.

-We must open our minds to see the truth of the word of God and understand the scriptures.

-Let us listen to the eyewitnesses about their testimony of Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:1-4 #1303

III. We pursue our faith by sharing it with the world. Matthew 28:18-20 #1072

-Because of the authority of Jesus we go and share His good news. Philippians 2:5-11 #1257

-Make disciples: Through the word about Jesus, Faith, Baptism, Teaching, Observing.

-This commandment comes down to us through the disciples teaching us to do likewise.

-Practice these things. Philippians 3:12-16, 4:4-9 #1258

-Jesus is always with us, even to the end of ages.

Let us pursue our faith by looking to Jesus the author and perfector of our Faith.
