Let the Lord Guide your Path

Journey through the Bible: Being Chosen

Letting the Lord guide our path

Scripture Reading: John 20:20-22 "When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit." #1164

Introduction: Our Journey through the Bible has led us through the gospels about Jesus. We have seen His birth, baptism, teaching, death, burial and resurrection. We now start looking at the impact of His resurrection and the service we are to perform for the kingdom.

Proposition: We are called to let the Lord guide our path.

T.S.: Today we see the apostles replacing Judas with Matthias.

I. We must look to the scriptures to guide us on our path. Acts 1:12-20 #1166

-The disciples are preparing to act upon the Lord's work. V. 12-14 (Devotion to Prayer)

-Peter's mind has been open to the scriptures and he looks for a solution. V.15 -20

-We must search the scriptures and do the will of God. Acts 17:10-15 #1188

II. We must let the Lord guide the decisions along our path. Acts 1:21-26 #1167

-To be an eye witness one must have seen what the Lord has done. V. 21-22

-Out of a group of 120 only two met this requirement: Matthias and Joseph called Justus.

-The decision is made with prayer and petition to the Lord. V. 24-26

-They end up with two choices, both met requirements, how do you choose?

-They cast lots and the lot fell on Matthias. (70 times in OT, 7 in NT)

-They let the Lord make the final decision. (Pray for the Lord's will to be done!)

Let us search the scriptures and let the Lord guide us on the path of righteousness.
