Jesus Teaches the Words of Eternal Life

Journey Through The Bible: Jesus Teaches the Words of Eternal Life

Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." #1042

Introduction: Last time we looked at Jesus feeding the Five Thousand and walking on water. Matt. 14:13-33, Mark 6, Luke 9, John 6 #1143 Today we will look at Jesus teaching the words of eternal life. John 6:22-71 #1144

The crowds really start to grow around Jesus since He has fed the five thousand. He knows why they are here, to be fed not of the spirit, but of the flesh. So instead of feeding them physical food He departs to them the true food, the food of His flesh and blood. This is a difficult thing for many people to grasp. His body is the bread of eternal life and on this statement many leave.

Proposition: We must believe in Jesus as the bread of eternal life.

T.S.: When we understand this, we understand the words of eternal life.

I. We are called to believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ.

-John 6:22-59 #1144 (Jesus uses the physical to try to explain the spiritual)

-Jesus has fed the Five Thousand, now they want more. He offers eternal bread.

-Question presented: What sign do you do that we may believe?

-This teaching is difficult because He is speaking of His father in heaven. (Joseph's Son?)

-Bread from heaven we can eat and never die Spiritually. 1 Corinthians 11:23-32

II. We are called to press on and not shrink back.

-John 6:60-71 #1145

-Many things that Jesus teaches are difficult. 1 Timothy 6:11-16 #1272

-Many leave Jesus at this point for they do not understanding the Spirit.

-Jesus has the words for eternal life, believe that He is the Holy One from God.

Let us believe in Jesus, the Son of God, confess Him to the world and never shrink back.
