Journey Through The Bible: Jesus Performs Miracles

Scripture Reading: Exodus 6:6-7 "Say therefore to the people of Israel. "I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of Judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians." #61

Introduction: Last week we looked at Jesus as he taught in Parables. Matthew 13 #1049, Mark 4 #1076, Luke 8 #1109 Today we will look at Jesus performing Miracles. Matthew 8:14-34, Mark 4-5 #1076 Nest week we will look at The Death of John the Baptist. Matthew 14:1-12 #1051, Mark 6:17-29 #1080

As we continue our Journey through the Bible, we have seen the start of a wonderful ministry by both John the baptizer and Jesus the Son of God. As we continue forward I have a question for each of you to consider. What is the purpose of miracles? As we look at today's text and compare it with the miracles of God during the exodus, we will see they are to reveal the power and glory of God to the world.

Proposition: We are called to believe and obey the revelation of God through Christ.

T.S.: Today we see three areas that Christ reveals His authority.

I. We see that Christ reveals His authority over Creation.

-Mark 4:38-41 #1078

-Jesus calms the storm. "Peace! Be still!"

-Lesson: Jesus has all authority over creation. Revelation 4:11 #1314

-We are able to find peace during the storm when we have faith in God.

-Exodus comparison. Each plague showed the true God's power over creation.

II.We see Christ reveal His authority over the Spiritual Realm.

-Mark 5:1-20 #1078

-Jesus casts out a Legion of demons. "Come out, you unclean spirit!"

-Lesson: Jesus has all authority over the spiritual realm. Matthew 28:18-20 #1072

-We shall proclaim the good news of the power of Jesus.

-Exodus comparison. Each plague showed the power of God over any other god. Ex 8:19

III. We see Christ reveal His authority over Sin and Death.

-Mark 5:21-43 #1078-79

-Jesus heals a woman and raises a girl from the dead. "Who touched me?"

-Lesson: Jesus has authority over sickness and death. Mark 16:5-9 "He is risen!"

-Exodus comparison. The final plague showed the power of God over death. Ex. 12:29

Let us have faith in the miracles of Christ and His authority over heaven and earth.
