Scripture Reading: 1 John 2:1-4 "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world." #1303
Introduction: Last week we looked at John the Baptist sending Messengers, Jesus Praises John. Matthew 11 #1046, Luke 7:18-30 #1107 Today we see Jesus as He forgives the repentant woman. Luke 7:36-8:3 #1109 Next week we will look at Jesus accused of Blasphemy. Matthew 12, Mark 3:20-30, Luke 11 #1116
As we continue our Journey through the Bible, we saw that we are to remain steadfast in our faith. This week we see that Jesus forgives those who repent and have faith in Him. Jesus shows us that we must be humble and love Him for forgiving us our many sins.
Proposition: We are called to faithfully come to the Lord in humility and love.
T.S.: We see that Jesus will forgive our sins when we repent and come to Him in faith.
I. We are come to the Lord in repentance and in humility.
-Luke 7:36-38 #1109
-This woman admitted her sinfulness. V. 36-37 (James 5:16 #1294)
-She came in brokenness and repentance. V. 38 (Acts 2:37 #1168)
-She was completely humble before the Lord. V. 38 (James 4:1-10 #1293)
II. We should not judge other when they repent.
-Luke 7:39-40 #1109
-This Pharisee looked down on Jesus. (James 4:11-12 #1293)
-He also looked down on this repentant woman. (1 John 3:11-18 #1305)
III. We ought to rejoice in love that the Lord forgives our sins.
-Luke 7:41-8:3 #1109
-Jesus speaks about love and forgiveness. V. 41-43
-The one who loves God will be forgiven. V. 44-50 (1 John 5:1-5 #1306)
-When we receive forgiveness we must be willing to give. V. 8:1-3
Let us come to the Lord in love, faith, and humility and He will forgive our sins.
