Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:9-11 "Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." #1257
Introduction: Last time we looked at Jesus Cleansing the Temple and teaching Nicodemus. John 2:13-3:21 #1140 Today we see Jesus and John Baptizing, John exalts Christ / imprisoned. John 3:22-36 #1140, Lk. 3:19 Next week we will look at Jesus and the Samaritan woman. John 4:1-46 #1141
Today we look at Jesus and John baptizing. Questions arise to John and he points to Jesus. John is not looking for glory, but giving all the glory to God.
Proposition: We are called to believe in the Son of God to receive eternal life.
T.S.: We are to honor the Son over all others.
I. We are to rejoice as we point others to the Son of God.
-John 3:22-30 #1140
- Jesus and John are both baptizing now with plenty of water. V. 22-24 (Romans 6:1-11)
-Purification is the topic of discussion. V. 25 (Jewish rituals)
- Question: Jesus is also baptizing and more are going to him. V. 26
-We are to rejoice as we point others to Christ. V. 26-30 (Phil. 4:4-7)
-As we have received, we should freely give.
II. We are to believe in the Son of God to receive eternal life.
- John 3:31-36 #1140
-Christ is above all. (Phil. 2:1-11)
-Christ bore witness to what he had seen.
-The Spirit was upon Christ without measure. (Luke 3:21-22)
-We receive the true testimony and the gift of the Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
-All glory is with Christ, let us believe and obey. (1 John 5:1-5)
Let us believe in Christ and obey His word so we may receive the promised eternal life.
