Journey through the Bible: Are you Ready?

Scripture Reading: Daniel 11:31-32 "His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation. With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him." #963

Introduction: We have seen Jesus enter into Jerusalem and cleanse the temple, we also saw the Pharisees and Sadducees putting Jesus to the test with some questions they thought could not be answered without impunity. Matthew 22:15-46 Last week we looked at judgement upon those who worship in false religion. Matthew 23 #1063 Today we see Jesus predict the destruction of the Temple and his return. Matthew 24 #1064, Luke 21 #1130

Proposition: We must be ready for our Lord Jesus to return.

T.S.: We see Jesus prophesying to his disciples about false prophets and His return.

I. We must be ready and able to see and refute false prophets.

-Matthew 24:1-28 #1064

-We must not rely on earthly possessions. Widow gives two coins. Luke 21 Temple destroyed.

-We are to acknowledge that there are terrible things happening in this world.

-We need to be prepared to stand for the truth no matter the consequences.

-We must not listen to those who distort the truth about the temple destruction. Daniel 11 #963

-We should always be on the lookout for false Christs and false prophets.

II. We must be ready for Jesus to return.

-Matthew 24:29-51 #1064

-We know that the return of Jesus is going to come with a loud trumpet call.

-We need to be ready for no one knows the time of His return. 1 Thess. 4:13-5:11 #1266

-Let us not get lazy, but be ever vigilant in our faith.

-We need to be watchful for Jesus will come when we least expect Him to return.

Let us be ready be ready for our Lord to return and be earnest in our studies so we do not get led astray.
